The material

Consistent, non-porous, engineered.

Engineered quartz is around 90% ground natural quartz bound with resin and pigment and pressed into slabs under vacuum. What you see in the showroom is exactly what arrives, colour and pattern match from slab to slab, and the surface never needs sealing.

Best for
Busy family kitchens, bathroom vanities, commercial counters and any project where a long run has to match perfectly. Not for outdoor use or direct sunlight, where UV can shift the colour over time.
Durability
Highly durable and scratch-resistant for everyday residential and commercial use. Chips are rare and repairable. Most brands warranty the surface for 15 years to lifetime.
Heat & stains
Non-porous, so wine, coffee and oil sit on the surface and wipe off. The resin binder is sensitive to sustained heat, so use a trivet under hot pans and pots.
Maintenance
Soap and water. No sealing, ever. Avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents, which can dull the finish.
Look
Hundreds of colours, from solid whites to marble-look veining and concrete tones, in polished, matte and textured finishes. Jumbo slabs up to 130 inches allow seamless islands.

Why quartz

Engineered quartz, where it fits

Why choose engineered quartz

Engineered quartz gives you a consistent pattern across long runs, because it is manufactured rather than quarried, so the island, counters and backsplash match slab to slab. It is non-porous and never needs sealing; daily care is warm water and a mild cleaner. For busy kitchens in Sterling and across Northern Virginia that want a predictable look with almost no maintenance, it is often the easiest choice.

Where quartz is not the best fit

Quartz has two limits worth knowing. Its resin binder is sensitive to sustained heat, so use a trivet for hot pans, and it is not rated for outdoor or sun-exposed runs, where the colour can shift. For heat, sunlight and outdoor kitchens we steer you to porcelain or natural quartzite, marble and granite. Our FAQ covers hot pans and outdoor use in more detail.

Good to know

Quartz, in practice

It depends on the specific slab, but natural quartzite usually costs more than engineered quartz. Engineered quartz and common granites sit at the entry level of what we fabricate, while exotic quartzites, marbles and book-matched porcelain sit higher. Premium quartz collections can overlap with mid-range natural stone. Send us dimensions and photos and we will return a written estimate, usually within one business day. Request an estimate

Engineered quartz and porcelain. Both are non-porous and never need sealing; daily cleaning is warm water, a soft cloth and a mild cleaner. The difference is heat and sunlight. Porcelain is heat-proof and UV-stable, while quartz needs a trivet for hot pans and is not rated for outdoor use. See porcelain

Quartz has a consistent pattern from slab to slab, which makes seams on long runs easier to hide than in natural stone. We plan seam locations during templating and lay out the countertop on a scan of your slab, so you see where any seam falls and approve it before anything is cut. How we plan layouts
